As of 2014, the average teeth cleaning, which is one of the least expensive dental services, is $82.08. More expensive services can easily cost you tens of thousands of dollars, even with insurance. Because of this, many avoid visiting the dentist altogether but eventually most will need some sort of dental work.

For those that can’t afford to see a dentist, when that time comes it can be extremely stressful. However, a lack of money doesn’t mean that anyone has to go without dental services. Local and state dental associations typically offer some sort of assistance to those who can’t afford the services they need. You can find an association near you on the American Dental Association national association directory. It also has a listing of dental schools that may be able to provide free and low cost dental services from student dentists.

Dental insurance is, of course, helpful in these situations. For those that don’t have enough money for dental insurance Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) may be able to help.

With or without insurance, low cost dentists are also a smart option. An organization called Needy Meds has a directory of free and low cost dental clinics to assist people looking for less expensive dental care. The Health Resources & Services Administration has a health center directory as well. Some of these health centers offer low cost dental services.

It’s not impossible to get dental care without a lot of money. Dental health is important and with these options, it is within reach. Use the assistance available to you and make an appointment as soon as possible.
