United Way is one of the largest human service nonprofits in the united states. They have six different programs and initiatives to help people experiencing different types of hardships. While most of them are good to know about, there are two services that are especially useful for those in financial hardship.

The first, and most important, service is called 2-1-1. It is both a hotline and a website designed to guide those in need to local resources. The hotline runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can call any time. They have information for a long list of resources including food, shelter, employment, health care, and ex-offender help.

The second is especially helpful during tax season. It’s called MyFreeTaxes and provides free tax preparation to those that make less than $62,000. You can file them online or search for a tax filing volunteer in your area.

The information regarding these and their four other programs can be found on their website. You will also find information about their mission and find a location in your area.
